Happiness for an agriculture teacher is getting kids involved in agriculture education and FFA. Recently we were visited by the Wyoming FFA State Officers and discovered that our agriculture course enrollment had increased from 30 to 57 students in two years. Additionally our FFA membership has grown from 12 members to nearly 30.
More Opportunities
Increased enrollment and membership is happiness for an Ag teacher becasue it means more opportunities for students. Look at the activities we've already done and the projects we have already accomplished. In years past we would have five or six members show up to an activity and we considered that a great turnout (50%). Now when people see Bow River FFA they know it because we have 15-20 members. We had five members attend Wyoming FFA Leadership Camp, ten members help clean the highway, 25 members serving homecoming dinner, and next week we are even attending National FFA Convention.
More members makes our mission to serve our community easier but it also requires us to be on top of our game. See, in the spring when we get ready to compete in CDE's, Ag Science Fair and various other contests we will have competition within our own chapter. In some cases students will have to work to earn their spot on the team. This culture creates success. I believe we can be very successful, don't you?
